Research at IMBHR Summer Experience (RISE)

For 2026: * Applications are due by March 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST

RISE provides exceptional summer opportunities for undergraduate, postbaccalaureate and graduate students. It will run for 10 weeks from June to August 2026.
Under faculty mentorship by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University, the internship culminates in completion of a scholarly research product suitable for conference submission.
Day-to-day: Assist with data preparation, analysis, and research-related tasks under supervision. Participate in structured training activities and apply developing research skills in a collaborative, fast-paced learning environment. Use interpersonal and critical thinking skills to interact effectively with various audiences.
… receive between $15-18/hour, depending on education level and experience, for 40 hours of work per week. This equates to a summer stipend of $6000 to $7200 over 10 weeks. Additional financial support will be provided for travel to and from the program for participants living outside the central Ohio area.

Health Sciences Research Fellowship

  • Research must be under the mentorship of faculty members in any of the six schools of the University of Pittsburgh Health Science
  • Students will apply via the online Brackenridge Application and indicate their interest in being considered for the health science research fellowship

  • Program dates: May 30 - August 4
  • Housing may or may not be provided
  • Eligibility
    • Applicants must have completed their sophomore or junior year of undergraduate training before the start of the program
    • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 (B) of higher
    • Must be currently enrolled full time
    • International applicants will be required to provide official authorization for Optional Practical Training (OPT) from their home institution, prior to their arrival in Pittsburgh

Frederick Honors College (FHC) Research Fellowship

  • Amount: $1000
  • Term: Fall/ Spring
  • Application due date: November 14, 2022 for Spring Term
  • Student must register for 1 credit of research and attend a weekly seminar
  • Eligibility
    • Undergraduate students who have identified a research mentor
    • Any major, any year
