Note Taking Tools

In addition to Wiki (tool), personal note taking tools used in the LNCD include:

  • bea: composition notebook
  • shane: giant word doc (-2022), evernote (2022-)
  • will: zim-wiki (2011-), emacs-zimwiki-mode (2019-)

TODO: other's note strategies.

Other software

There's a ton of interesting note taking software. Ideally, notes are accessible in perpetuity – consider open formats and open software to avoid vendor lock in.

  • web hosted/$$: notation, roam, polarize, TheBrain, obsidian
  • open source: joplin, anytype, appflowy
  • annotation first: Hypothes.is, zotero
  • desktop apps: logseq, qownnotes, rednotebook
  • niche/ecco pro like outliners: cherrytree, CrossLine, treesheets, leo
  • emacs: org-mode, hyperbole/Koutliner, howm, eev, deft
  • vim-wiki

Syncing

You might want to pair notes with syncing software. UPMC favors OneDrive, blocks dropbox and google drive, but allows syncthing and source forges (github, codeburgh, sr.ht, etc).
